DESCRIPTION:Join exceptional Australian artist RAE ANDREWS for an 11 day fully escorted Travel Sketching and Journalling tour through the highlights of Romania. A fully escorted high end tour with loads of extras and daily workshops and demos.\nCome Paint in Romania with me!  If you feel you need a ‘nudge’ and wish to paint in a free and loose style\, you won’t want to miss this opportunity.\n \nABOUT RAE ANDREWS \nAustralian Rae Andrews moved to the United States in 1990 and lived in Hawaii for a number of years where she owned two art galleries on the island of Maui.\nIn her native country of Australia\, Rae owned a 400 student  art school in Sydney\, Australia.\nThis award winning artist works and teaches in all mediums all over the world\, and will tackle all manner of subjects.\nHer playful style is all about color and movement.\nRae  has painted professionally  for over 50 years\, teaching and demonstrating in various areas of the United States\, Europe  and Australia.\nShe has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts from the City Art Institute in Sydney\, Australia (now a part of the University of NSW) and a Post Graduate Degree in Professional Art Studies. \nSEE MORE OF HER WORK HERE \nEach day we have a sketch demo and sketching workshop as well as orientation\, walking and history tours and free time to do what you like in each wonderful town we visit. Here is your chance to experience a step-back-in-time tour of a country only recently opening up and catering to Western tourism. \nRead more about our SKETCHING TOURS here. \nThis is a tour for anyone and everyone. You do not have to be an experienced sketcher at all. Rae will show you her easy style and help you to achieve your own wonderful results in your own way. Those non-sketchers are welcome if they are travelling sharing with a sketcher as there is just so much to see and explore in this trip. \nYour experienced tour manager and guide Kate Stedman is an historian\, art lover and avid sketcher and she will take you to her favourite spots and regale you with fun facts and historic gems each day as well. \n\nItinerary Overview\nPrice & Dates\nLearning Goals with RAE\nHow to Book your Place \nRomania is like a synopsis of all the countries that have invaded it: \n\nParis in Bucarest\, Romania’s capital city\nSt Petersburg in Bucovina\, Romania\nDracula in Transylvania\nVienna and Salzburg in Brasov\, Romania\nBudapest in Sighisoara\, Romania\nVersailles in Sinaia\, Romania\n\nWHAT IS ROMANIA LIKE?\nRomania is just so different from any place you have been before.\nIt is changing enormously each year now it is out from behind 40 years of suppression and the Iron Curtain. But it still is startlingly different from the West.\nRomania is the last place in Europe where you can still see unspoiled countryside of old-growth forests\, with the traditional rural civilisation still alive.\nTake the opportunity to visit now to experience how a country missed the Baby Boomer era of growth and development.\nPrepare to see Communist era legacy and architecture where some locals still travel in horse and carts and peasants still live a medieval existence. You will see a mixture of architectural colonial pomp and splendour going back centuries with the most stunning backdrop imaginable. Then this is contrasted with modernity and Western affluence at times too. \nSome of the most extraordinary architecture in the world seen nowhere else is on our tour as well as of course the history of this unusual Latin country in the heart of Slavic Eastern Europe. \nStarting in Bucarest we visit the Parliament Palace – the 2nd largest building in the world built by the dictator Ceaucescu and his wife.\nWe sketch the Parisian decadent splendour of pre-Communist Romania as well as see the vestiges of the dictator’s legacy in the buildings and changes he made.\nWe travel to Transylvania to Vlad the Impaler territory where Bram Stoker set his novel Dracula.\nSome of what we also see are: the extraordinary painted monasteries of Bucovina called the ‘Sistine Chapels of the East”\, the Black Church of Brasov\, the Red Lake\, Peles Castle and the majestic wild woodland of the Carpathians mountains and rivers. And much much more to sketch and fill a Travel Journal with variety and beauty.\nAnd Rae will show us with daily demos and workshops how to sketch them all. \n \n \nOur Travel Sketching tours cater for people who love history\, food\, culture and learning a creative skill – or just like to explore new places in a fun group.\nEach afternoon is free for you to amble\, explore\, read\, shop\, paint\, cook – whatever you’d like to do as we offer so many suggestions.\nWe design activities for variety and interest and you are free to join us or take off on your own.\nMany meals are included: ALL BREAKFASTS\, 3 DINNERS\, 3 LUNCHES in this amazing tour price but even when you do decide to eat with the group at times when it is not included in the tour itinerary we ensure that you only pay for what you eat and there is no bill-splitting. \nNon-sketchers are most welcome on this tour too if they are sharing a room with a Sketcher. \nDO I NEED TO BE A TALENTED ARTIST?  \nAbsolutely not. You will be there for the pure love of learning and sharing with a group of like-minded people and we all learn and create at our own pace. You can be a pure beginner and feel just as pleased with your output and learning as everyone else. Ian will be there to teach\, inspire and encourage you each day no matter what your skill and experience level. Our equipment is portable\, watercolor based with some mixed media and designed to be quick\, simple travel journal-style sketching to enhance your holiday \nThere is quite simply no more enjoyable way to travel!  \n  \nSo if you are keen then fill out the ONLINE booking form (see the last tab above) and follow the instructions in this form to pay your deposit! \n\n\n11 days  starting May  4 – 14 in 2022.\n4 star accommodation with ensuite bathrooms \nCOST: Please note the cost is in EUROS. \nTo convert this to your currency please go to https://www.xe.com and use their currency converter \n€3\,200 EUROS pp for twin share in a room\n€2\,850 EUROS pp for a non sketching participant sharing a room with a Sketcher\n€550   EUROS  extra single traveller supplement \n* Travel insurance is a mandatory requirement for all participants on our tours and we advise you to take out the policy upon paying the deposit for the tour. \nINCLUSIONS: \nAll accommodation whilst on tour\nAirport transfers to and from hotel\nDaily breakfasts\n3 dinners (with wine)\n3 lunches\nAll entries\nInternal flight Bucarest to Suceava in Northern Romania\nAll transport on tour in private bus\nOur Romanian English-speaking expert guide\nYour Tour Manager throughout the tour\n9 demos & workshops with RAE ANDREWS \n\n\nLearning Goals with Rae Andrews – a creative experience \n\nThis tour will involve mainly plein air painting and travel sketching in watercolor.\nWe will work mostly in book-sized travel journals while on location and finish off our work in our hotel and or cafes\, restaurants etc\nDaily demonstrations and instruction on technique and how to compose your paintings\nLearn to paint trees\, reflections\, buildings\, shadows\, pre-colour your pages\, apply washes\, watercolor tricks of the trade and much more\nRae loves color\, and splashing her watercolors with gay abandon\, often finding her subjects later\, out of the paint. She leaves a lot of the white watercolor paper visible in her own works\, giving a cleaner and fresher result.\nAlthough WATERCOLOR is the medium Rae will use for her demonstrations\,  students  are free to work in the medium of  their choice.
